Okay here’s that last thing I mentioned in my other post. I have arranged above the mini biographies of the founding saints of the Sisters of Battle and I have to admit, it’s this and the 6th edition codex, which is based on the above, albeit more focused on describing the orders than their Saints. Now the descriptions above are not bad in the strictest sense, there’s even some stuff that I like about it. That said in comparison to the Primarchs, this needs a lot of work on the part of Games Workshop.

I think inquisitorpsyduck was on to something when they said it sounds like they were going to go back and flesh things out later. There is the bones of some brilliant stories here, but that’s it. In comparison to the Primarchs, this looks like something thrown together about 10 minutes before the deadline, including a 5 minute tea break.

For example I’m not into the Space Marines at all, but with about 5 minutes of googling I could find at least one interesting or exciting thing that each primarch did that was largely unrelated to their death. Leman Russ once got really drunk and punched the Emperor in the face, Guilliman wrote the Codex, Vulkan defended his hometown with two blacksmith’s hammers, Lion El’Jonson basically lived an arthurian legend, and Sanguinius had wings and broke a greater daemon’s spine. Those five are just off the top of my head. By contrast three out of the six women listed above apparently didn’t do anything super interesting except die and go before the Emperor himself. And while I find the fact that only one out of the six of them didn’t die on the battlefield odd, it does make sense given that they are warriors of the Emperor before everything else and I doubt they would have had it any other way(Though I choose to believe that Arabella the Liberator died peacefully as she deserves a happy ending). For now I want to focus on how little the reader is given to work with. Silvana is a saint who is near and dear to my heart(because I too am a big softie when you get right down to it), but what do we the reader really know about her after reading the above? Only that her defining trait is selflessness, that she went before the Golden Throne, and that on her death she pulled a Shroud of Turin, but what else? I do find it telling that it references acts of selflessness rather than a specific incident.

In brief if there were ever a faction that desperately need more background material it would be the Sisterhood. That said if they do, I have a laundry list of things I’d like to see, but I’ll post that later.
